Before-and-after photos for hair products are easy to fake and easy to misread, so this article does two things. It shows what real customers of the AHK-Cu Hair Elixir tracked at 4, 8 and 12 weeks, unretouched, and it explains what you should expect to see in your own mirror at each point, including the things that look like failure and are not.
What the timeline looks like
| Week | What most people see | What is happening underneath |
|---|---|---|
| 1–2 | Nothing visible. Some scalp tingling on application. | Peptide reaching the dermal papilla daily; no change to hairs already grown |
| 2–6 | Less hair in the drain and brush for most. A minority see a brief increase first. | Follicles shifting from resting to growth phase; old club hairs released (shedding explained) |
| 6–8 | Scalp feels less tight or irritated. Fine, short hairs at the hairline or part under strong light. | New anagen hairs emerging; they start thin and pale |
| 8–12 | Part line looks narrower in photos. Existing hairs feel thicker at the root. | New hairs gaining diameter; cycle lengthening (anagen phase) |
| 12+ | Density difference visible to others. Photos at the same angle and light show it. | Cumulative: more follicles in growth, fewer miniaturising |
The reason it takes this long is not the product; it is the hair cycle. A follicle that re-enters growth needs weeks to push a new shaft through the skin and months to thicken it. The biology is in how long AHK-Cu takes to work.
Customer results at 4, 8 and 12 weeks
These are the three result sets shown on our homepage: verified purchasers, their own photos, no retouching. We asked for the same angle and lighting at each checkpoint; where they differ, that is the customer's phone, not our edit.

Across customers who completed the 12-week check-in, the figures we publish on the homepage are: 91% reported less shedding by week 4, and a majority reported visible density improvement by week 12. Those are self-reported customer outcomes, not a clinical trial, and we label them that way.
How to take before-and-after photos that mean something
- Same spot, same light. Bathroom, overhead light only, phone at arm's length. Mark the floor if you have to.
- Wet and dry. Wet hair shows scalp coverage honestly; dry hair shows how it looks to others. Take both.
- Three angles. Top-down at the crown, straight-on hairline, and the part from above.
- Every 4 weeks, not every day. Daily photos show noise; monthly photos show trend.
- Do not change anything else. A new shampoo, a haircut or a different parting will swamp the signal.
Results that look like failure and are not
- More hair in the shower in weeks 2–6. Treatment shedding, covered above. It stops on its own.
- New hairs that look like fuzz. Every new anagen hair starts as vellus-like growth; diameter increases over the following cycles.
- No visible change at week 6. Normal. Most visible change sits between weeks 8 and 12.
- Good results that plateau. Once recruitable follicles are in growth, further gains slow. Maintenance, not escalation, is the plan from there.
What changes results most
In our customer data, three things separate strong 12-week results from weak ones: daily consistency (missed days compound), starting before follicles are fully miniaturised (a receding hairline responds better than a long-bald crown; see AHK-Cu for receding hairline), and adding weekly microneedling for people who can tolerate it. Combining with minoxidil or finasteride adds a different mechanism and, for androgenetic hair loss, usually a better outcome (stacking guide).
GHK-Cu before and after: is it the same?
Most "copper peptide before and after" photos online are from GHK-Cu-only products. The timeline is similar because the hair cycle is the constraint, but the mechanism differs: GHK-Cu's hair evidence is indirect, AHK-Cu was tested on follicle cells directly.1 The Elixir contains both, which is why we track results on the combined formula rather than either peptide alone. The differences are laid out in AHK-Cu vs GHK-Cu.
Frequently asked
How long before I should give up?
Twelve weeks of daily use with photos at 0, 4, 8 and 12. If the week-12 photos show nothing and shedding has not dropped, the product is not working for you and the 30-day guarantee exists for that reason.
Do results continue after 12 weeks?
Gains continue more slowly up to about 6 months, then hold with continued use.
Will the results stay if I stop?
Growth supported by the serum returns to baseline over several months after stopping, as with every topical hair treatment.
